A BABY girl who died last month was killed, detectives say.

Three-week-old Mikayla Haining was taken to Raigmore Hospital but later died on Thursday, June 8 and cops are now treating her death as "suspicious".

Her death was initially but several weeks into the investigation cops now say she was killed.

Detective Inspector Brian Geddes, who is leading the investigation, said: "Following extensive enquiries, we can now confirm that the circumstances surrounding Mikayla Haining's death are suspicious.

"Our investigation remains ongoing at this time, as we work towards establishing the full set of circumstances that led to Mikayla's death, and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
