'OUR DOORS WERE BLOWN OFF'

A MUM has recalled the harrowing moment a massive blast rocked her holiday hotel and sparked fears of a terror attack.

Stacy Boyle, 35, said her room’s glass balcony doors were blown to pieces in the middle of the night by the huge explosion at the Cyprus resort.

And when she fled with her mum and three kids, she saw panicking guests running in the corridors and children screaming in fear of a "bomb".

Stacy, of Glasgow, revealed she had been on the balcony at the Tofinis Hotel in Ayia Napa just before a hot water boiler on the roof blew up.

She said: “My mum, my two-year-old and I were sitting outside until around 2.30am before going to bed.

“We were woken up half an hour later by a massive explosion and glass coming in. It was so loud. Our doors had been blown off and there was glass everywhere.

“I went outside and shouted for help. There were people running shouting ‘bomb’ and ‘terrorist attack’.

“There was metal everywhere, glass and water all over the balcony and part of the roof had caved in.

“If we’d been on the balcony another half hour we would’ve been scalded by hot water and showered with glass. It was terrifying.”

Stacy, right, said guests were left waiting anxiously for hours before they were told the explosion was a boiler blast, not terrorism.

The family were moved to a new room four hours after the incident at the hotel and apartments complex. But Stacy claims she was threatened with the cops when she refused to sign a waiver promising not to make a complaint.

She said: “The rep came and said if I wanted to stay in the new room I had to sign the form saying I wouldn’t take things further.

“I told them I wasn’t signing anything. She said the hotel manager said that if I didn’t get out the room the police would be called.”

She added: “The hotel is an absolute joke. I wouldn’t advise anyone to go there.”

Holiday operator Thomson said it will probe the July 1 incident. A spokesman said: “We’re sorry to hear of Ms Boyle’s experience. We will be in contact with customers to resolve the situation.”
