Terrified couple cheat death as they are plucked from rocks surrounded by raging seas in Cornwall
Holidaymakers were cut off by the tide and had to be lifted by chopper
A TERRIFIED couple cheated death when plucked from rocks surrounded by raging seas in a dramatic rescue yesterday.
The holidaymakers had to be winched to safety after being cut off by the rising tide on rugged coastline in Poldark’s Cornwall.
They clung to each other as huge waves smashed into the rock ledge, threatening to sweep them away.
Witnesses say the Swiss couple were minutes from death when a coastguard helicopter hauled them to safety in Watergate Bay, near Newquay.
One said: “Another couple of minutes and a big wave could have got them.
“I saw the tide getting closer to them and the waves getting higher.
“One nearly did get them. It was as close run thing, they were very lucky.”
A coastguard spokesman said: “The casualties were in danger of being washed off the rocks.”
