Kate Middleton is the toast of Germany as husband Prince William gets the beers in to celebrate beating the Duchess in Heidelberg boat race
Duchess, who joked this week about wanting more babies, took a pretend sip before passing her stein to another rower
THE Duchess of Cambridge raises a beer to Germany — as royal fever sweeps the country.
Husband William had cracked open a barrel of local booze to celebrate beating his wife in a boat race.
Kate, who joked this week about wanting more babies, took a pretend sip before passing her stein to another rower.
Thousands had lined the River Neckar in Heidelberg to see the pair cox rival boats — with William seeking revenge for Kate’s 2014 sailing regatta victory.
Crowds thronged as the three-day trip got blanket positive coverage in the German media, which is nicknaming it “die Charmeoffensive”.
Kate swapped her stylish Jenny Packham dress for a stripey top and sporty leggings while William removed his jacket and put on a pair of blue trainers.
Before they set off Kate told her crew, which included German Olympic rowing champ Filip Adamski: “No pressure, but I do want to beat my husband!”
She admitted she was “worried about crashing” but Filip reassured her: “If we crash, we crash together.”
William, who admitted “this could be a challenge”, set off without any advice. But he still ended up winning by a length — with the delighted royal high-fiving his victorious crew.
They then discussed who would crack open the beer barrel before Kate said to William: “I’ll let you do that. It’s a man’s job.”
The couple, both 35, were also seen getting competitive earlier in the day — making pretzels.
William, who plumped for a simple folding method, moaned: “Yours is better than mine. You’re making it look so easy.”
They were on the second day of their Germany visit after arriving in Berlin on Wednesday. They spent yesterday without children George and Charlotte, who stayed with a nanny.
Last night William and Kate attended a reception at the last original dancehall in Berlin. They are due to visit Hamburg today.
Harry’s a sweetie
PRINCE Harry is a sight as he tries to ice a cupcake while blindfolded.
He was asked to experience the struggles faced by people with brain injuries.
But Harry, 32, couldn’t resist having a taste of the buttercream. He was visiting charity Headway in Ipswich.
