COPS have revealed missing RAF man Corrie McKeague was “known to sleep in bins” as they called off the search of a landfill site after finding no trace of him.
A top cop made the announcement this afternoon after officers hit a brick wall in the hunt for the 23-year-old serviceman.
The extent of the massive search was revealed last month when drone pictures showed how specialist officers shifted more than 4,430 tonnes of rubbish over a four month period.
Detective superintendent Kate Elliott said: “Sadly we have not found Corrie or any trace of his clothing or mobile phone. No items had any link to Corrie.”
Cops originally said the landfill search would take just six to ten weeks.
But after 21 weeks, the heavily criticised hunt has still not found any clues – despite an estimated cost of over a million pounds.
Police believe Corrie is buried at the site after CCTV showed a Biffa waste lorry making a collection in the area Corrie had last been seen at 3.25am in Bury St Edmonds.

DS Elliot added: “There is no evidence to support that anything else happened to Corrie, other than being transported in the bin lorry.
“The investigation team have nothing to indicate anything suspicious happened to him.”
