Acid response kits given to London police after a rise in attacks with corrosive liquids
Packs will contain eyewear and gloves so officers can treat victims immediately
COPS are being issued with acid response kits after a rise in attacks with corrosive liquids.
Rapid response cars in London will carry packs containing eyewear and gloves so officers can treat victims immediately.
Kits also include five-litre bottles of water that can help prevent skin damage if used quickly.
Cops in East London — scene of many attacks — will also be issued with gear to test suspect liquids seen on the street.
Acting Det Supt Mike West said the number of acid assaults was small compared to knife and gun crime. But he added: “The injuries are a life sentence.”
Last year, the capital saw 455 crimes when a corrosive was used or use was threatened. Offenders can get life for GBH.
