The revelation came as Home Secretary Amber Rudd flew to Silicon Valley for showdown talks with US web giants on their counter-terror efforts.

Experts are furious at the US web giants for failing to take down extremist material and hate content.
And the Home Secretary is demanding the giants allow spooks a “lawful” back door into encrypted messages between terrorists.

Sources claimed the Tory rising star plans to shame the tech bosses by revealing the UK authorities have had to take down 280,000 pieces of terrorist content since 2010.

The Home Office analysis revealed last night comes from messages on the Telegram instant messaging service.

Daesh supporters are “reminded of the importance of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr in Daesh’s Media War”.

Today’s showdown is the first meeting of Global Internet counter-terror forum demanded by the Home Secretary in the aftermath of the Westminster terror attacks.

Earlier yesterday, 21 year-old Taha Hussain of Slough was found guilty of terror offences - including running a YouTube channel where he said no one should ‘feel sorry’ for the deaths of non-Muslims.

The channel contained videos of militants in battle, firing a range of weapons, blowing up vehicles and showed the black flag associated with Daesh.

He also sent videos containing extremist propaganda on Whatsapp.

Amber Rudd will today “acknowledge” the efforts made by tech giants already to identify and remove hate content.

“This Forum is a crucial way to start turning the tide.

“The responsibility for tackling this threat at every level lies with both governments and with industry.

“We have a shared interest: we want to protect our citizens and keep the free and open internet we all love.”
