Man dies and dozens of homes evacuated after ‘gas leak’ at Tottenham house
Neighbours raised the alarm over welfare concerns for the man, believed to be in his 30s
A MAN in his 30s has been found dead after a gas leak at a house in North London.
Neighbours raised the alarm after smelling gas just after 1pm this afternoon.
Homes in Avenue Road, Tottenham, had to be evacuated for several hours.
A Met Police spokeswoman said the man's death was being treated as "unexplained but not suspicious".
She said: "We were called around 1pm following concerns for the welfare of the occupant.
"There was a smell of gas so the London Fire Brigade also attended to ensure the premises were safe to enter.
"Once they had done that, police went inside and found the body of a deceased man.
"Nearby addresses were evacuated as a precaution while the incident was dealt with."
