Father Frank Gelli says Diana called him with 'good news' just days before her death
PRINCESS Diana asked a priest if she could marry Dodi Fayed in a church yards from Kensington Palace, it has been claimed.
Father Frank Gelli says shortly before her death, an excited Diana asked him if he would perform the service when she got married.
He says the Princess called him to tell him she had "good news" just days before she and Dodi were tragically killed in a horror crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.
Father Gelli, who was curate at St Mary Abbots church in Kensington at the time, told the : "She wanted to know if it was possible for two people of different religions to marry. I told her it was.
"As we spoke her telephone rang. It was obviously Dodi. Her eyes lit up.
"As she was leaving she asked me if I would be able to perform the service when she got married. Her love was obvious.”
Diana called Father Gelli while on holiday in Saint-Tropez, France, with Dodi to tell him she had "good news".
The pair were cruising the Mediterranean on Dodi's dad Mohamed's yacht the Jonikal days before their deaths.

She asked him to meet her at Kensington Palace when she returned, but days later in Paris she died along with Dodi, 41, in the crash.
Italian-born Fr Gelli said: “I feel sure that if Diana and Dodi had not been killed, they would have married.
“Diana was so very happy and very much in love. She was looking forward to the future.”
Dodi's dad Mohamed believes the pair were just hours from announcing their wedding plans and had been killed by the security services to prevent her marrying a Muslim.
Diana started attending the church a few months before her death, slipping in at the back during services and trying to keep a low profile.
Fr Gelli said he believed she was looking for Christian approval to wed a Muslim.
