A HERO bus driver whose quick-thinking saved a woman shoved in the path of his double decker by the Putney Pusher was praised by his proud colleagues today.
Co-workers said the driver's last-minute swerve "without a shadow of a doubt" saved the 33-year-old's life as she was pushed to the ground just inches from the bus.
According to the , the driver has worked on buses for a decade and was travelling at around 12mph when he saw the jogger shove the woman on Putney Bridge.
He heroically managed to bring the bus to a stop just inches from her head as she lay sprawled on the ground in the horror.
A co-worker said: "It’s horrific to think what could have happened if the driver wasn’t able to act as quick as he did, or if he’d been checking mirrors at that moment.
“To have the precision to also avoid all the other cars, people and other traffic should be commended.
“These situations are where our training and experience are put to the test, that’s why he managed to act so quickly.”
It comes as police said they are following up on a number of "viable leads" after they released a public appeal for information to find the jogger.
Investigating officer Sergeant Mat Knowles said she was "put in extreme danger" when she was knocked into the road.
He added: "It was only due to the superb quick reactions of the bus driver that she was not hit by the vehicle."
The bus stopped and passengers tended to the woman following the incident at about 7.40am on May 5.
Cops said the jogger ran the other way across the bridge around 15 minutes later and the victim attempted to speak to him, but "he did not acknowledge her".
Cops revealed yesterday the net was closing in on the jogger - dubbed the Putney Pusher - after they received a "good response" from the public.
An appeal has been launched for witnesses or anyone who recognises the jogger in the CCTV.
He is described as white, in his early to mid-30s, with brown eyes and short brown hair.
He was wearing a light grey T-shirt and dark blue shorts.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
