How many Barcelona attack suspects have been caught or killed by police?

Four people were arrested in connection with the atrocities: Driss Oukabir, 28, Mohammed Aalla, Mohamed Houli Chemlal and Salh El Karib.

Three remain in custody while Mohammed Aalla, the man who was thought to own the Audi that ran over a crowd in Cambrils, killing one, was released.

The baby-faced "jihadi" whose older brother accused him of stealing his ID to hire the van that mowed down crowds was killed.

Moussa Oukabir, 18, was shot dead along with Salid Aallaa, 18, Mohamed Hychami, 24, Omar Hychami, 21, and  and Houssaine Abouyaaqoub, 19.

The five dead suspects were gunned down by cops in Cambrils while wearing fake suicide vests.

An explosion at a house in Alancar where plotters had amassed a massive bomb arsenal the night before the atrocity left between two and three suspects dead.

Police later revealed that among those killed was Abdelbaki Es Satty, 45, the imam suspected of radicalising the so-called Tarragona cell.

The alleged ringleader had links to one of the 2004 Madrid bombers and was in Brussels shortly before the 2016 airport attack.

He went to prison five years ago for trafficking hashish from Morocco to Spain, and was locked up alongside Rachid Aglif, jailed for his role in what is Spain's worst terror attack.

At least 191 people were killed and thousands were injured when an al Qaeda-linked terror cell detonated bombs on commuter trains during the morning rush hour.

The imam had begun preaching in Ripoll around two years ago but stopped two months ago, sources at the town’s mosque said.

Driss Oukabir, 28, whose name the van was rented in, reportedly turned himself in after seeing his face on TV.

It has been reported he denied blame and told investigating officers his brother Moussa, 17, stole his ID.

Mohammed Aalla, Mohamed Houli Chemlal, Driss Oukabir and Salah el Karib were all arrested and appeared in court on August 22.

Aalla was released, Karib was held in custody and Chemlal and Oukabir were charged with murder.

Many of the group involved in the Barcelona attacks are believed to have recently returned from Syria fighting for ISIS.

The terror group was quick to claim responsibility for the deadly attack.

The jihadist-affiliated news agency Amaq released a message, saying: "The executors of the Barcelona attack were soldiers of the Islamic State.”

What happened to Younnes Abouyaaqou?

For several days police had also hunted Younnes Abouyaaqoub, 22, the chief suspect thought to have driven the Las Ramblas terror van.

He was shot and killed by cops on the afternoon of Monday, August 21 while wearing a fake suicide belt.

The shooting took place in Subirats, a town about an hour's drive west from Barcelona.

Local media said cops managed to find and shoot him on a road near a sewage treatment plant.

Before the shooting CCTV images emerged of the Las Ramblas massacre driver calmly fleeing the scene on foot following the atrocity.

What about the Barcelona suspects in court?

Four of the men accused of the attack appeared in court on August 22.

The four, the only ones still alive among the 12 men believed to be behind the atrocity, were brought from Barcelona to Madrid where they were taken to the High Court under tight security for the hearing.

One of those who appeared before investigating magistrate Fernando Andreu was Driss Oukabir, whose passport was found in the abandoned van after the Barcelona attack.

Mohammed Aalla - owner of the Audi used in the Cambrils attack - also appeared in court and the 27-year-old was released with strict conditions.

His brother Said was killed in the coastal resort and his other brother Youssef is thought to have died in the Alcanar house blast.

Mohamed Houli Chemlal, arrested after being hurt in the blast at Alcanar, also appeared in court as did Salah el Karib, who ran an internet cafe in Ripoll that, according to La Vanguardia newspaper, was used to send money to Morocco.

Chemlal was charged with murder after admitting the group planned to blow up the world famous Sagrada Familia cathedral. He was charged along with Driss Oukabir, on Tuesday 22 August.
