Dramatic moment biker gang chase football star Andy Carroll’s jeep through traffic – as pictures emerge of brazen thief flashing cash and making gun signs

THIS is the moment a motorbike gang chases down Premier League star Andy Carroll in a bid to steal his £22,000 wristwatch.

The two bikes can be seen swooping on the star's Jeep, chasing him along the road and even forcing him to drive on the wrong side of the road to escape the high-speed attempted robbery.

Jack O'Brien, 23, has now been jailed for 11 years after being found guilty of being involved in the chase targeting the football ace.

In the series of CCTV clips, the bikes can be seen swerving through traffic in broad daylight in an attempt to get to Carroll as he drove his green Jeep Wrangler home from training.

The court had previously heard evidence from Carroll himself, he said that one of the suspects gestured he had a gun before they started to try to block him from driving away.

In a 999 call played to the jury, the player said: "There's two motorbikes, one's behind me pulling out a gun, I don't know what to do."

Telling the operator he was going to drive back to West Ham's Chadwell Heath training ground, he added: "Seriously, I can't slow down, he's got a gun."

Arriving back at the training ground, he told the operator: "I've probably just hit about 10 cars on the way here."

Pictures have since emerged of O'Brien posing with cash and even making a gun sign with his hand.

Serial thief O'Brien, of Romford, East London, was today found guilty of attempted robbery by a jury of six men and six women after six hours and 25 minutes of deliberations at Basildon Crown Court.

He had denied attempting to rob the England-capped 28-year-old on November 2 last year.

But handing down the sentence of six years imprisonment for attempted robbery and five years and three months for burglary offences, to run consecutively, Judge John Lodge told O'Brien: "By reason of the planning of that sophisticated offence, the length of time that you pursued that vehicle, and that you were again using your motorcycle equipment as a disguise you are at the very top of the bracket of culpability."

The second suspect involved in the attempted robbery of Carroll remains outstanding.

Premier League ace Andy Carroll earlier had to be whisked from West Ham's training ground back to court after a last-minute request for him to give further evidence in a trial.

The judge requested he answer more questions to help the trial of a man accused of trying to rob him of his £22,000 watch.

Police escorted the 6ft 4in striker from the club's training ground to Barkingside Magistrates' Court on the eve of transfer deadline day.

The multi-million pound ace had given his main evidence at Basildon Crown Court, with an impact statement read to the court hearing he now "feared for his life" and travelled to and from training with security guards.

Prosecutor Simon Gladwell said police arrested O'Brien at a house in Dagenham, east London, 10 days after the alleged attempted robbery, where they found him in the front bedroom "hiding in the bedframe under the mattress".

A crash helmet and Ducati jacket were seized from the property, and a Suzuki motorbike was seized from the back garden.

Mr Gladwell said the three items used in the alleged attempted robbery were the same as those seized at the time of O'Brien's arrest.

The three items were also used by O'Brien in a string of burglaries, to which O'Brien pleaded guilty in April 2017, in which items including jewellery, watches and cash were stolen.
