A gruesome snap of the brave schoolboy from his hospital bed shows his bloodied face after the crash.

The moped rider fled the scene after knocking the youngster off his bicycle as he played in the street at around 4.30pm.

Cops were called and an ambulance crew took LJ to hospital for treatment.

His mum : "There were two mopeds. They just rode off. We are hoping for arrests.

She said: "He was knocked out, I found two of his teeth on the footpath. His leg was trapped in his handlebars, and his gum was sliced open.

"He's really sore, but is being a trooper - he's most devastated about his bike. He'll need a new one."

LJ's uncle posted the image on Facebook and appealed for information in the hunt for the "hideous people" who left the youngster lying unconscious in the street.

He wrote: "These two disgusting people, didn't even have the decency to phone, alert or shout for the emergency services or surrounding help; they left my beautiful 8-year-old nephew choking on his own blood and tangled in the wreck."

The youngster is being treated at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening.

Inspector Simon Reid said: “At this time I appeal to anybody who may have any information around the circumstances of this collision, particularly anyone who may have contacted emergency services shortly after the incident, to contact Police on 101."
