Some heifers were so over the moon to be free they leapt on each other. They were soon re-mooved.

Janis Wilson, 61, had just got up and was enjoying a cup of tea in her living room in Bollington last Sunday morning when she heard loud 'mooing' outside her house.

The grandma of five quickly took pictures of the 40 cows meandering across her neighbours' front gardens in a half-hour rampage – eating carefully-tended plants, bumping into cars and pooing over people's drives.

Janis Wilson said: "It was certainly an eye opener. My partner Steve thought it was hilarious.
"It was quite a strange thing to wake up to and not the sort of thing you'd expect for a Sunday morning."

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 9.20am on Sunday, 10 September to reports of a large number of cows along a road in Bollington, Macclesfield.
