Mum with the same name as Wayne Rooney party girl Laura Simpson calls in cops after being bombarded with threats
A MUM named Laura Simpson has called in cops after being bombarded with abuse from people mistaking her for the woman at the centre of Wayne Rooney’s drink-drive scandal.
The 27-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent says she fears for the safety of her three-month-old son and herself after receiving vile messages on social media branding her a "home-wrecker".
She said: "People are searching the name and going crazy at me and if they bothered looking into it they'd realise it wasn't me.
"I'm getting every kind of abuse you can imagine.
"Every day people are sending me messages saying I'm a home-wrecker, that I'm a disgrace and that I should be ashamed of myself.
"I can't pick up my phone without seeing the abuse. As a new mum I can do without the stress.
"I've turned off the notifications because otherwise I'm constantly having to swipe off the messages before answering texts.
"I've contacted the police as I was worried about mine and my baby's safety.
"The police suggested I close my social media accounts as there's not a lot they can do.”
Laura, who lives with partner Aaron Moran, 31, said she has received over 50 messages in total on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
She added: "The abuse had died down a bit.
"But after she did the interview on This Morning it's started up again, with people saying I came across really bad.
"I don't usually respond but sometimes I just say it's not me. But then the trolls say that's a typical tweet my agent would say.
"I'm just a normal woman, I don't have an agent.
"For something someone else has done I'm the one suffering the backlash.
"They constantly harass me. It's crazy. I don't even look like her.
"I'm suffering probably as much as she is with the trolls."
One person asked Stoke City fan Laura if she had kissed Rooney and that she "should be ashamed going after football players".
Twitter user @KevinTwoddle, said: "You should never have done that TV interview with Phillip Schofield. I don't think you came across well at all."
Cynthia Aldred wrote on Facebook: "After telling everyone for weeks she nearly shagged Wayne she now says [it's] all been blown up out of proportion! Attention seeking moron."
Should Wayne and wife Coleen divorce she could walk away with half his £70million fortune.
Last month Coleen revealed she was expecting her fourth child.
