'IT WAS LIKE A HORROR MOVIE'

Hero dad-to-be recounts the carnage on Parsons Green tube as he helped passengers who had caught fire

A HERO who rescued burning passengers said the carnage was “like something in a horror film”.

Labourer Aleks Jelaca, 29, saw horrific injuries, including a woman whose tights caught fire and burned through her legs.

A man who was closer to the bomb had skin and molten rubber hanging off his hand.

Aleks, of Earlsfield, South West London, said: “The first thing I heard was a massive bang. It was terrifying. I was right behind the bomb by the doors.

“I was trying to protect my face but a lady’s hair caught fire and I tried to help her put it out while trying not to get burnt.”

Rather than flee when the doors opened, Aleks helped victims.

He said: “I didn’t run, even though I was panicking. I had to help this lady whose hair was on fire.

"Another older lady on the floor kept fainting. I guided her out of the station.”

Aleks, originally from Croatia, said the memory of the London Bridge attack was flashing through his mind.

He said: “I worried there might be another bomb somewhere else, or someone with a knife.

"I thought to myself that I didn't want to die on that train. It would be a horrible way to go."

Aleks helped screaming commuters out of the station and then after giving his details to emergency crews went to St George's Hospital in Tooting to get checked over by a doctor.

The 29-year-old, who is expecting a child in March, said:"I’m not a hero, I just did the right thing.

“My heart goes to all the people who are hurt. It's such a shock for everybody and just a horrible situation to be in.
