Wayne Rooney ‘will dodge outdoor community service to stop people wanting SELFIES’

WAYNE Rooney might be allowed to dodge humiliating outdoor community service because he’s too FAMOUS to pick up litter.

Probation chiefs fear the former England football captain could be mobbed by fans wanting selfies or targeted by yobs hurling abuse.

Instead the striker may be switched to a cushier indoor job away from cameras and the general public.

Roo, 31, is to meet a community payback supervisor to discuss how he’ll repay his debt to society after he admitted a drink-driving rap earlier this week.

It was thought he would be made to wear a high-vis jacket on a work gang clearing rubbish, scrubbing graffiti or painting fences.

But today a Probation Service source said: “It will just descend into farce if Rooney is made to work outside.

“There will be passers-by stopping for selfies and autographs and idiots just wanting to hurl abuse at him.

“If this happens the interest in him would mean that it would be impossible for him to complete his community service work effectively.

“Also, the team in charge might not be able to ensure his safety if he is attracting attention from local yobs.”

Other "safer" options include working in an old people’s home or a community centre, or sifting through bags of donated clothes in a charity shop.

Everton ace Rooney said he had let his family down after he pleaded guilty to drink driving at Stockport magistrates court.

He was banned him from the road for two years and ordered to do 100 hours' unpaid work. He has a year to complete the hours.

Rooney had tried to squirm out of doing community service as his lawyer argued he already did a lot for charity.

But district judge John Temperley said a large fine would not be enough of a punishment.

He said: "This was a serious offence you committed, driving a motor vehicle while three times over the limit.

"The fact you were carrying a passenger is an aggravating factor.

"You were putting yourself and other road users at risk."

Lawyer Michael Rainford told the court: "Wayne wishes to express his genuine remorse for this terrible error of judgement.

"He's let not only himself down but his family down. He also acknowledges he has let his fans down."

England's record goalscorer was stopped by police driving party girl Laura Simpson's VW Beetle after a night out in Cheshire on September 1 while wife Coleen was on holiday in Majorca.

Laura said they shared a "kiss and a cuddle" and she probably would have slept with him had he not been arrested.

Furious Coleen, pregnant with the couple's fourth child, has been seen without her £450,000 wedding and engagement rings.

Roo, who still wears his wedding band, has begged her not to end their eight-year marriage.

Coleen has told pals she is sick of Wayne's immaturity and believes the community service has done her a favour by finally forcing him to grow up.

Cheshire & Greater Manchester Community Rehabilitation Company, which will oversee Rooney's unpaid work, said: “We cannot comment on individual cases.

"Community Payback is a punishment for breaking the law that involves offenders working on projects that benefit the community.

"CGM CRC rigorously upholds sentences made by the courts, and supports people subject to community sentences to successfully rehabilitate.”
