Boozy Brits could soon take a pill to stop them binge-drinking – by killing ‘buzz’ of alcohol
It is hoped the pill could help people who don't see themselves as problem drinkers
A MIRACLE pill could soon help boozy Brits kick the habit.
The drug could help kill the buzz of wanting a drink, with it hoped it could tackle Brits' over-indulgence on a tipple.
It has been revealed that arbaclofen placarbil could help people who don't see themselves as problem drinkers.
According to indivior, the drug can help to inhibit the area of the brain that generates pleasure felt after having a drink.
Further studies will need to be conducted to get the drug on the market.
But it might not be as far away as you think - with the drug potentially winning approval as early as 2020 or 2021.
The drug is being developed by Indivior in a £23m facility in Hull, was opened last month.
It is not clear how effective the pill could be, or how long it would last for.
, the company said: "In alcohol use disorder, we completed a Phase 2a study for arbaclofen placarbil in the US, which suggested that the product was safe and well tolerated in a controlled abstinence setting, but with significant inter-individual variability in pharmacokinetics.
"Additional clinical studies are required, and we are underway with new formulation development."
It comes after it was revealed drinking alcohol in the sun could do serious damage to your skin.
But other studies have suggested a daily drink can cut the risk of an early death by a fifth.
