Gordon, understood to be 24 and who also went by the name Gordon Diduca, was taken to the city’s Ninewells Hospital where he passed away.

Medics treated another man at the scene for an arm injury.

And now his shocked family have paid tribute to the construction labourer after his death.

His cousin, Sandra Nicoll, wrote: "Would like to say RIP to my little cousin Gordon. He was 24, a prankster, laughable, would help anyone if he could but he certainly didn't deserve to be killed in the middle of a street."

Friend Dylan Queen said: "I seriously don’t know what to say right now still in shock, saw you only a few hours ago and now your gone, had so many great memories with you bro, you’re at rest now and will be missed so much. Love you bro.”

And Shannon Coughlin added: "You will be well and truly missed Gordon, taken far too soon. Never told you enough how much I appreciate you and how well you done for yourself.

"My heart goes out to all the family - I'm honestly lost for words, heaven gained another angel."

The murder is the second tragedy to hit the family in less than six months.

His niece Courtney set up a crowd funding page to raise money for his funeral.

Stunned neighbours have told how they heard horrifying screams pierce the air as a reveller cried out someone had been attacked on Sunday night.

Blood-soaked Gordon was put on a stretcher but sadly medics were unable to save him.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said she dialled 999 after the disturbance, which is thought to have been sparked by a row over loud music.

She said: “There were bloodcurdling screams. I phoned the ambulance and they arrived quickly and brought out a man.

“A young looking lad was taken away in cuffs.

“The thought of someone with a weapon like that scares me.”

Another neighbour said: “I was told there was an argument about music being too loud at a flat.

“Someone apparently went to complain and asked for it to be turned down but was shot with a crossbow.”

Another witness said: “It sounded as if there was a party going on at one of the flats.

“The next thing, there were people in the street shouting about a crossbow and for someone to phone 999.

“The police were here quickly and sealed the whole street off.

“Paramedics brought a guy out and he and he was in a bad way. It was horrible.”

In May, Gordon's mother, Janice, died after a three month battle with cancer.

Gordon told how she "fought her cancer like a warrior".
