Partygoer who fell 80 feet to his death may have been blown off a bridge by wind, inquest hears
Rhys Cafferty, 25, who had been drinking at a St Patrick’s Day celebration, was seen near the edge of the Silver Jubilee bridge
A MAN who fell 80ft to his death from a bridge may have been blown by a strong gust of wind, an inquest heard.
Rhys Cafferty, 25, was seen standing on the bridge’s railings before hanging from them after a night out with pals.
A passing motorist saw him at 4am and called police fearing the bricklayer was about to jump.
He said the March weather was “blowing a gale and very, very wet”. A policeman grabbed his hand but lost his grip.
Rhys, of Widnes, Cheshire, then fell from the Silver Jubilee Bridge and drowned in the River Mersey.
His body was found two weeks later.
The coroner at the Warrington hearing said a gust could have blown him off.
