The offences are said to have taken place on the  mainland and Channel Islands between the 1950s and 1990s, including during his four years at No10.

The supposed victims were boys aged between 11 and 17.

Some allegations were made to cops well before the two-year probe began into Sir Edward, who died in 2005 aged 89.

Seven, including the rape, were so serious he would have been quizzed under caution. Wiltshire Chief Constable Mike Veale led the £2million Operation Conifer probe. His  dossier will be released on Thursday.

It will reignite the historic sex crimes controversy at the heart of the Establishment but Sir Edwards’ pals will say he is unable to defend himself.
