Las Vegas mass shooting which leaves at least 50 dead leads to grounding of many flights in and out of McCarran Airport
THE mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip temporarily shut down the gambling resort's bustling McCarran Airport.
Just before 9am UK time, airport bosses said limited operations were just beginning again but warned passengers they should expect lengthy delays.
Earlier, travellers were left in limbo as services into the terminal were either cancelled or diverted to other airports in the US and Canada.
McCarran Airport first advised its passengers that some flights “will be affected” and said delays are to be expected.
It later tweeted saying all flights in and out of the international McCarran airport “have been temporarily halted” following the reported shooting on the Las Vegas Strip.
The concerned daughter of one airport worker posted: "My father works at McCarran airport, and they’re on lockdown.
"He’s off, but I know he won’t be home for a few hours..."
However, a few services are now back up-and-running.
At least 50 people are reported dead and more than 200 wounded after a shooter sprayed bullets into music festival crowds from a hotel balcony in Las Vegas in the biggest mass shooting in US history.
Police have confirmed one suspect is "down", with crowds pictured fleeing the area near Mandalay Bay Resort Casino and victims seen covered in blood.
The Route 91 Harvest country music festival was taking place across the road from the hotel which is near the airport on the south side of the Strip.
Flights were being diverted to Phoenix, airports in Los Angeles, Ontario, Salt Lake City, Denver and Ontario.
McCarran Airport is known as the "Gateway to Las Vegas" and more than four and half million passengers use the terminal every month.
