Tory conference stage starts falling apart during Theresa May’s speech

The slogan behind the PM ended up as complete nonsense

THE TORY conference stage started to fall apart during Theresa May's speech today in one of a string of embarrassing blunders.

While the PM was speaking, one of the letters from the slogan behind her fell off.

As the speech continued, more letters fell to the ground, eventually leaving the writing totally incomprehensible.

The slogan on the backdrop to the stage read "Building a country that works for everyone".

But halfway through the speech, the F fell off leaving the message "Building a country that works or everyone".

Within minutes of the PM finishing her speech, nearly half the letters had fallen to the floor.

The slogan now said "BUL DING A C NTRY THA ORKS OR RYON".

Viewers responded with astonishment to the bizarre gaffe.

Former Lib Dem aide Polly Mackenzie tweeted: "Why did they make the conference slogan with stick on letters anyway? To remind us the 1970s sucked?"

And Karim Palant joked: "So this all ended with the PM dropping an E on stage? Bold."

The stage screw-up was just one of several disasters to strike Mrs May's conference speech.

She suffered from a bad cough which almost stopped her speaking, and a prankster handed her a fake P45 on stage after breaking in.

The incidents overshadowed Mrs May's attempt to set out a radical agenda which can win back young voters from Jeremy Corbyn.
