Woman, 61, tells of moment she was mauled by rampaging PIG as she got into car

A WOMAN who was mauled by an escaped pig has revealed how she thought she was going to die as it charged at her.

Marie Yates, 61, said the 30-stone pig called Hammy had escaped her neighbour's garden before biting through her broom and attacking her.

Speaking from her hospital bed, the 61-year-old said she had tried to use a broom to coax the creature, believed to be a Gloucester Old Spot breed, back into its garden when it turned on her.

Marie, clearly shaken by her ordeal, claimed: "I tried to run behind the car, thinking he couldn't get to be and that's when he charged me with his huge tusks. It looks like a wild boar to me.

"I thought he was going to kill me.

"There was so much blood I thought I was going to die, it's all over the house and on the carpets."

She said it has ripped the bottom of her legs off, saying she already had two surgeries and had been in hospital since the Wednesday attack.

Marie, who cares full-time for her 91-year-old mum Margaret, said: "I’ve just been sick and tired of it getting out and causing havoc."

She said the pig's owner, named as Nicholas Jackson, had said it was going to be a micro pig - but when it arrived it was "more like a wild boar".

She said: "It’s much bigger than they could have anticipated, and it’s just taken over."

Marie said that the creature had broken her fence on three separate occasions, saying: "I seem to notice the smell a lot more than other people that live on this street, and it’s something that’s really hard to live with, especially for my mum too."

The retired bank manager said that she had contacted council, and environmental health, but so far nothing had been done.

Her brother Greg said: "She was just getting into her car when she saw a pair of eyes looking back at her.

"The pig just charged at her. She turned her back to it and it left her with a large gash down the back of her right leg.

"As she tried to get away it attack her front on and she was left with another deep wound on the front of her left leg.

"She managed to escape by waiting in a space between the car and a wall. The pig was too fat to get into the space."

The 53-year-old said that the animal had wrecked the garden in Darlaston, West Midlands, on Wednesday morning, adding that the attack could have been fatal if it had targeted a child.

He said: "We are animal lovers but the pig either needs to be removed or put down for everyone's safety."

Nelly and Trevor Jones live at number six and said: "I heard the dog barking and going mad and than I heard Maria shouting, 'The pig is attacking me'."

Trevor said: "When I ran round I didn't notice the wounds at first but I just saw the blood running down into her shoes.

"The pig was literally inches away from her and I got her into the my house and my wife called an ambulance."

He said that Marie had suffered two big wounds about seven inches long and two inches deep, with the 61-year-old taken to hospital and now needing to undergo plastic surgery.

Neighbours have have called on the animal to be turned into sausages, with one saying: "That thing is a monster. If it attacked a child it'd kill it no question.

"The damn thing needs to be made into sausages. A pig is not a pet, it belongs on a farm. The next victim might not be so lucky."

Another said: "The poor lady almost lost her legs to this animal.

"You say the word pig and it sounds lovable but this thing is easily 30 maybe even 40 stone and capable of tearing a human to pieces.

"If it was a dog it'd be put down, the same should go for this bloody pig."

A woman at the property where the pig lives refused to comment.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police received a call to a pig on the loose in Darlaston at 9.26am on Wednesday.

"A 61-year-old woman was treated for injuries to her leg from the pig, which was taken back to its pen at a home in the same road."
