Rose McGowan slams Hollywood’s silence over Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment claims
ACTRESS Rose McGowan has hit out at her Hollywood co-stars for staying silent during the ongoing Harvey Weinstein sex scandal.
She blasted others in the film industry as it was announced the 65-year-old movie mogul had been kicked out of his OWN company following the shocking claims.
It's been reported Weinstein - who has more than 300 Oscar nominations - has already reached at least eight settlements with women who have accused him of sexual harassment.
Now McGowan, 44, has taken to to post a photo of herself when younger with the caption: "This is the girl that was hurt by a monster. This is the girl who you are shaming with your silence."
The Italian-born actress later tweeted: "Ladies of Hollywood, your silence is deafening." She also called on male actors to speak up.
Rose then followed the tweets by naming those who were exempt from her comments: "This excludes #patricia #amber #lena #Brie Get brave."
Over the weekend it was announced that multi-millioniare Weinstein had been fired from his position at The Weinstein Company.
"In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of the Weinstein Company have determined and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment is terminated, effective immediately," the board wrote in a statement.
Weinstein was the subject of an explosive New York Times article that claimed the Mirimax studio head had a decades-long history of sexually harassing female employees.
McGowan has yet to confirm the circulating New York Times report suggesting she was paid $100,000 in settlement by Weinstein following an undisclosed incident from the mid-1990s.
An array of film stars emerged, after the newspaper's damning report, to accuse the Oscar-winning producer of improper sexual advances, including US actress Ashley Judd.
The 49-year-old star recalled an incident in which she expected to discuss business with Weinstein but instead was summoned to his hotel room.
She claimed Weinstein — wearing a bathrobe — then asked her if he could give her a massage, or if she would be willing to watch him take a shower.
Judd said she had thought: “How do I get out of the room as fast as possible without alienating Harvey Weinstein?”
Other claims included offers of career advancement in exchange for sex, forced massages and incidents in which he was alleged to have fully exposed himself.
According to the report, allegations against Weinstein, who is married to English fashion designer and actress Georgina Chapman, stretch over three decades.
