Long Lartin inmates ‘take over prison wing after attacking wardens with pool balls’
Specialist Tornado squads have been dispatched to high security Long Lartin prison
A PRISON riot has seen 80 lags take over the wing of a Worcestershire prison after attacking staff with pool balls.
Specialist Tornado squads have been dispatched to high security Long Lartin prison in a bid to restore order to E wing.
The Ministry of Justice said: "We are currently managing an ongoing incident at HMP Long Lartin.
"We are absolutely clear that offenders who behave in this way will be punished and face spending extra time behind bars."
BBC correspondent Danny Shaw reported that a separate protest is believed to have broken out elsewhere in the prison.
Category A Long Lartin has a capacity of 622 prisoners.
A mass riot in Birmingham prison in December 2016 also saw guards attacked with pool balls after lags stole keys and freed 500 inmates.
