Virgin fails to spot customer’s sarcasm as he moans about food on £142 train
Rail firm thanked passenger Daniel Davies who had his tongue in his cheek when he uploaded a photo of a tray of nachos and wrote 'shout out to @virgintrains for the outstanding menu'
A VIRGIN Trains passenger who complained about a journey was stunned to get a reply from the firm’s official Twitter account saying: “Great to hear”.
Daniel Davies was unhappy with the service he received in first class on his trip from London to Chester yesterday.
Daniel, who runs a firm that provides training for the hospitality industry, uploaded a photo of a tray of nachos and wrote: “Shout out to @VirginTrains and @richardbranson for the outstanding menu available on your Lond - Chester ‘service’ what u get for £142!”
He then uploaded a screenshot of a reply from VirginTrains where they appear to have written: “Great to hear Daniel.”
It appears to have been removed from their Twitter feed subsequently.
The firm then contacted Daniel to write: “Sorry for that Daniel, it was a miscommunication, did you mention this to the staff onboard?”
To which he replied: “No you’re not: No it wasn’t: And no I haven’t - because your food ‘offer’ is a HQ issue.”
The exchange sparked widespread mockery from other twitter users.
One, called Gears wrote: “Hey Virgin. I think you missed the massive dollop of sarcasm there.”
Another, named Paul Harrison uploaded a gif that shows Big Bang Theory’s Leonard hold up a sign that reads “sarcasm”.
LeeroyGV added: “Absolutely disgusting. @Richardbranson should be ashamed, but he’s not”.
Daniel, from Liverpool, also produces a premium vodka and has been pictured alongside stars including Conor McGregor and Peter Stringfellow.
Virgin Trains declined to comment.
