SAS and SBS special forces to receive a £300million funding boost in battle against ISIS
The cash injection is expected to bring understaffed special forces units to full strength by recruiting 100 more troops and kit out elite anti-terror units with the latest high-tech weapons and vehicles
BRITAIN'S special forces will be given a £300m cash injection to help crush ISIS once and for all.
The money will pay for an extra 100 elite troops for the understaffed SAS and SBS, and is expected to help kit out elite anti-terror units with the latest high-tech weapons and vehicles.
Cash will also go to the Special Reconnaissance Regiment and the Special Forces Support Group as they help smash terror groups in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Central America and parts of Africa.
The funding is also expected to boost the the crack counter-terror team of 40 SAS soldiers on permanent standby in Britain, ready to smash terror cells across the country at a moment's notice.
A source told : "There is no extra money coming in to defence so if the special forces are getting more cash then other units will be cut to pay for it.
"They are the ‘go to’ troops in an emergency so they need more cash."
Colonel Richard Kemp, former commander of British forces in Afghanistan, added: "The right prioritisation of defence spending should be towards special forces and intelligence-gathering.
"These are the most critical aspects of defence when dealing with terrorism. The Government should spend what is necessary."
