Rescuers carry missing dog to safety after he was discovered by a camera drone at bottom of 230ft quarry

A DOG missing for six days is carried to safety after a camera drone found him at the bottom of a 230ft quarry.

Terrier Ted vanished during a walk with his owner.

Drone operator Craig Timblin, 36, was called in and spotted him stuck in the disused pit.

A firefighter was lowered to pluck Ted to safety in Larcombe, Devon.

Craig, owner of Up and Away Vision, said: “We work with dog rescue services throughout the country, and this time we were working with a charity called Dog Lost.

“A volunteer contacted us so I made myself available and assisted in the search.

“We did an initial search on Thursday, looked around the property and the nearby fields but we couldn’t see any trace of him.

“We decided to put the drone in the air because we had been told about some quarries that were in the area, and we wanted some insight into size and access.

“They were very large and very deep with no access, there was no way in or out.

“Me and a volunteer decided to take a closer look and she said she could see something moving at the bottom. I looked closer and it was Ted.

“Once he got down there Ted started barking, it took him a little while to gain Ted’s trust but he did and put the dog in a secure bag and ascended up the 230ft.

“The fire service used the drone footage to find access points, they found it very helpful and it was safer than sending a man around the edge.

“The dog was completely uninjured but a bit thinner than he had been six days earlier, and ravenously hungry.

“He was almost completely unfazed by the whole experience.”
