The video shows what appears to be a moth with a huge orange belly.

Attached to it are four enormous hairy tentacles which it is seen flexing in the air.

Views commenting on the video appeared overwhelmingly disgusted.

One joked: "I'd burn the house down if I saw this" while another added: "Give him the keys and tell him the house is yours."

It was later revealed the critter is a type of moth that inflates its scent organs to attract mates

Eva Gregoric wrote: "I can't begin to describe how much I hate this."

Sandra Fletcher Owens said: "You'd have to revive me if I stumbled on this one."

And Stacey Flook posted she'd "rather die than live in a world where this exists".

However, it was revealed the creature is actually a Creatonotos gangis moth.

The four hairy tentacles are actually scent organs found on the abdomens of males and when inflated are used to produce pheromones to attract a mate.

The creatures are commonly found throughout South East Asia and Australia.

In August, a mysterious insect that looked similar to a pile of twigs was filmed writhing on the ground by baffled witnesses in Taiwan.

And last month a fanged creature with no eyes was found washed up and rotting on a beach in Texas after Hurricane Harvey.
