AMONG the newly-released JFK files is a letter warning Robert F. Kennedy of plans for an explosive book that would claim he had been involved in Marilyn Monroe's death.

The letter alerted US intelligence officials of author Frank A. Capell's plans to publish claims that Marilyn Monroe had been embroiled in a widely-known fling with Bobby Kennedy.

It reads: "The book claims that Miss Monroe's involvement with Kennedy 'was well known to her friends and reporters in the Hollywood area,' but was never publicisized."

The letter, sent on 14 July 1964, continues to warn of the writer's belief that Bobby Kennedy had been behind the young star's sudden death.

Including extracts from the 70-page book, the memo warns the FBI of Capell's claims that "Miss Monroe 'was led to believe his intentions were serious,' and that Kennedy had promised to divorce his wife and marry her.

"When he failed to do so, the book charges, she 'threatened to expose their relationship,' which would have ruined his presidential aspirations.

"It was then that Kennedy decided to take action.";

It adds: "According to the book, Kennedy used 'the Communist Conspiracy which is expert in the scientific elimination of its enemies' to dispose of Miss Monroe by making her murder appear to be a suicide."

Although the book was published months later in 1964, it failed to harness much attention from the public.

However, its scandalous claims throw weight behind previous allegations of a sordid affair between Marilyn Monroe and Kennedy.

Last year, a new piece of evidence surfaced - offering the most convincing proof of such a relationship between the two thus far.

Found within the actress' personal belongings was a letter sent from Jean Kennedy Smith, the younger sister of Bobby and then-President John Kennedy, in the early 1960s.

Within the two-page letter, she had written: "Understand you and Bobby are the new item!

"We all think you should come with him when he comes back East!"
