Although the 44th president of the USA now lives in Washington DC he still maintains a home in the state.

Cook County judge Timothy Evans told officials yesterday that the 56-year-old was due to attend next month, reported .

In 2015 Obama's predecessor George W. Bush did his jury service although he was not selected to serve on any cases.

However, he did turn up to the courthouse in Dallas, Texas and pose for photos with other jurors.

In 2004 Illinois had another famous citizen serve on a jury when Oprah Winfrey was selected.

She was one of 12 people who found a defendant guilty in a murder trial.

She said the horrible details of the case meant it was one of the saddest experiences she had endured.
