SCORES of octopuses have crawled out of the sea and invaded a Brit beach... with people at a loss as to why they have abandoned the waters.
More than 20 of the eight-legged sea dwellers were spotted slithering up sandy beaches in New Quay, Wales, on Friday night.
The mysterious phenomenon was witnessed by baffled staff from a dolphin watching company, reports.
Owner of SeaMôr Dolphin Watching Boat Trips Brett Jones said: “They were coming out of the water and crawling up the beach. We don’t quite know what’s causing it.
“Perhaps it’s because the sea has been quite rough recently but I’ve never seen anything like it before. They were walking on the tips of their legs."
The mysterious sightings have been reported over several nights with Brett advising people to return the creatures to the sea if possible.
The octopuses reportedly measure about 20in in length and have been seen curled up on the sand.
Despite the best efforts of the dolphin watchers there were reports that some of the were found dead on Saturday morning.
