Labour MP reveals she was sexually harassed by MEP at the European Parliament

Rupa Huq told Sky she was 'shocked' by the incident as John Mann revealed he was aware of four separate cases of 'objectionable behaviour' by MPs

A HIGH PROFILE Labour MP yesterday revealed she was sexually harassed by an MEP at the European Parliament – as the party was plunged into fresh controversy.

Rupa Huq said she was “shocked” by the incident in the 1990s before she joined the Commons – describing his “wandering hands” “slithering towards me”.

“I was quite startled more than anything else,” the MP for Ealing and Acton told Sky.

It came as campaigning Labour backbencher John Mann said he was aware of FOUR cases of “objectionable behaviour” by MPs.

Mr Mann said one assault “certainly passed the criminal threshold” – while the “other one is just appalling”.

One incident occurred overseas – meaning the police couldn’t prosecute.

Three of the four incidents are thought to involve Labour MPs and one a former Lib Dem MP. Mr Mann urged the authorities to reopen their inquiries – saying the women who had complained to Parliament had been ignored.

He told LBC: “These are serious complaints.

“I’ve seen the evidence. I’m not making a judgement on the accuracy of the evidence or not, that’s not my job, but without question they are serious complaints.

“Where I can comment on with authority is how they were dealt with and the answer is appallingly.”

The Sun yesterday revealed Jeremy Corbyn’s office had received an abuse complaint about an MP.
