Netflix cancels Kevin Spacey Gore Vidal movie and confirms disgraced star has been ditched from production of House of Cards’ final series
NETFLIX has reportedly confirmed it will cut all ties with Kevin Spacey as allegations against the House of Cards star mount.
The streaming service announced the disgraced star has been ditched from production of the final series of House of Cards and has canned his Gore Vidal movie.
The move comes after British police said they are investigating an allegation of sexual assault involving the Oscar winner.
In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, the streaming service said: "Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey.
"We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey."
Netflix said it had also scrapped a biopic of US writer Gore Vidal, produced by Spacey, that had completed filming and was due for release in 2018.
On Thursday it emerged that the Metropolitan Police had opened an investigation into an allegation of sexual assault made against the star.
It is understood officers from the Met's child abuse and sexual offences command are looking into claims Spacey sexually assaulted a man in Lambeth in 2008.
It is the first known UK police probe into the actor, 56, who allegedly abused the 23-year-old Brit after inviting him in for a drink.
The man claims that he woke to find Spacey performing a sexual act on him and then fled the address after being warned by the American Beauty actor not to tell anyone about it.
The Met declined to identify the alleged attacker but said in a statement: "On Wednesday, 1 November, City of London Police referred an allegation of sexual assault to the Metropolitan Police Service.
"It is alleged a man assaulted another man in 2008 in Lambeth.
"Officers from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command are investigating."
City of London Police confirmed they had referred an allegation of sexual assault from 2008 in Lambeth to Scotland Yard.
Production was halted on the sixth season of House of Cards after historical allegations of inappropriate behaviour against the star began to emerge.
Actor Anthony Rapp claimed Spacey had placed him on a bed and climbed on top of him following a party at his apartment in 1986.
The former artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre would have been 26 at the time of the alleged incident, while Rapp would have been 14.
Following Rapp's allegation in a BuzzFeed interview, Spacey said in a post on Twitter he did not remember the alleged incident and announced he is living as a gay man.
It comes as further allegations emerged last night, with three more men accusing Spacey of inappropriate conduct
Justin Dawes told he was a 16-year-old volunteer theatre usher when the actor invited him and a friend over to an apartment he was renting.
He said when they got there the TV was playing gay porn and Spacey gave them cocktails.
Mr Dawes said: "We all had a drink, and we were kind of like, 'Oh no one else is coming?' And he's like, 'Oh, no one else decided to come."
He said Spacey didn't mention the porn, adding: "It was really awkward."
An unnamed journalist also claimed Spacey grabbed his crotch during an interview at the Old Vic Theatre, where the actor was then the artistic director and starring in Inherit the Wind at the time.
He claims Spacey was "charming" during the interview but then invited him to a nightclub where he "kept reaching between my legs".
The journalist said Spacey's entourage did not thing to help and he felt compelled to stay because he was on an assignment.
He decided not to print the story because he didn't want to "out" Spacey, and added: "It has occurred to me since then that there's this weird way that Spacey had discovered that the closet would shield other things."
The third allegation was made by Mark Ebenhoch, who met Spacey on the set of Outbreak in 1995.
Mr Ebenhoch had not openly come out as gay at the time, but said one of Spacey's "harem" of young male assistants propositioned him on the actor's behalf.
He said: "They asked flat out to engage in a sexual act. It was enough to stun me. It blew me away."
Warner Bros, which distributed the film, refused to comment when approach by BuzzFeed.
Spacey's lawyer is also yet to respond to the most recent allegations made against his client.
Spacey's talent agency, CAA, is no longer representing the actor amid the growing claims of sexual harassment.
On Wednesday, Spacey's representative said the actor was "taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment" in light of the allegations.
His lawyers have been contacted for comment.
