Mum battles to clear son, 14, of ‘child abuse image’ rap after he sent naked Snapchat of HIMSELF to girlfriend
The teen sent the image to the girl who then shared it with friends. He was not arrested, but future employers could come across the incident on police logs should he seek to work with children in the future
COPS are being taken to court by the mum of a 14-year-old boy who was probed over sharing a "child abuse image" after sending a naked photograph of himself to his girlfriend on Snapchat.
The teen, who has not been named, from Manchester, sent the image to the girl who then shared it with friends.
Greater Manchester Police were made aware of the image and logged it in their system under "Obscene Publications".
His details will remain on the log until his 100th birthday.
The child was not arrested, and officers did not seek to prosecute him - however his details will lie on file with Greater Manchester Police regardless.
It is possible that the details could be revealed to employers in the future under a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Such a check could be carried out if he in the future sought to work with children.
The mum is now challenging the police force in the High Court.
The Sun Online recently revealed how teachers have been issued a sexting code to monitor what children are sending each other.
The guide includes abbreviations used by children in a new coded language their parents and teachers would never normally understand.
