New anti-semitism storm for Labour after candidate posted vile Facebook rants attacking Jews
LABOUR is facing further questions about anti-Semitism in its ranks after a council seat hopeful made offensive remarks about Jews.
Writing on Facebook, Nasreen Khan said British schools were "brainwashing us and our children into thinking the bad guy was Hitler".
She is one of two people who have been shortlisted by the party to contest a safe seat on Bradford council.
Khan, a former member of George Galloway's Respect Party. made the comment on Facebook five years ago.
She added there "worse people than Hitler in this world" and "what have the Jews done good in this world?"
She also said the religious and ethnic group had "reaped the rewards of playing victims".
During World War II The Holocaust saw the extermination of roughly six million Jews at the hands of Hitler and the Nazis.
The remarks were made in 2012 in comments made under a video shared on the social media site 'The Palestine you need to know'.
She said: "It’s such a shame that the history teachers in our school never taught us this but they are the first to start brainwashing us and our children into thinking the bad guy was Hitler. What have the Jews done good in this world?"
In response to questions about her views by other people on the site, she said: "No, I’m not a Nazi, I’m an ordinary British Muslim that had an opinion and put it across. We have worse people than Hitler in this world now."
She continued: "‘Stop beating a dead horse. The Jews have reaped the rewards of playing victims. Enough is enough!"
Miss Khan has now said the comments she made were "inappropriate and unacceptable", reported the .
She said: "I have been honest, frank and held my hand up regarding comments I made on Facebook over five years ago.
"I was challenged immediately about my language and apologised straight away. I accept fully that it was inappropriate and unacceptable.
"I profoundly regret the comments I made in 2012 and any offence they caused."
A decision on her candidacy is expected in the coming days.
In the two years since Jeremy Corbyn was made leader the Labour Party has faced a number of rows regarding anti-Semitism.
In April 2016 the MP for Bradford West, Naz Shah, was disciplined after she argued for the removal of Jews from the Middle East so they could be rehoused in the USA.
Ken Livingstone, the former Mayor of London, caused a furore after he claimed Jews had collaborated with the Nazi party during World War II.
Last year Corbyn launched an inquiry into anti-Semitism in the party which found that it did not have a problem with racism against Jews or any other ethnic group.
At the press conference discussing the inquiry's findings, the Labour MP Ruth Smeeth left in tears after a left-wing activist made anti-Semitic comments at the event.
