DONALD Trump hit North Korea with crippling new sanctions moments after a crunch phone call with Vladimir Putin.
The pair spoke for more than an hour stressing the importance of fighting terrorism together throughout the Middle East and Central Asia.
The US President agreed on a number of principles on the future of war-torn Syria following the Russian President's recent meet with with Syrian tyrant Bashar Assad.
Issues surrounding Iran, Ukraine and North Korea were also spoken about during the phone call earlier today, the White House revealed.
The Kremlin said Putin had briefed Trump on his talks with the Syrian leader in addition to calling on coordination of anti-terror efforts with the US.
Moments after the phone call the US announced a tough new wave of sanctions on North Korea in a bid to mount pressure on Kim Jong-un put a halt to nuclear weapons and missile programmes.
The US Treasury imposed sanctions on 20 shipping vessels, 13 Chinese firms and one Chinese individual it says are helping the regime evade UN sanctions.
It comes a day after Trump decisively listed North Korea a state sponsor of terrorism.
The despot state was previously removed from the list by President Bush back in 2008.
