Piers Morgan slams Olly Murs after Oxford Street panic… but popstar hits back and tells GMB presenter ‘if you were there you would understand’
PIERS Morgan slammed popstar Olly Murs after he sent a series of panicked tweets during the chaos on Oxford Street this afternoon.
Olly was among hundreds of shoppers left cowering in fear on the busy shopping street amid reports of gunshots - but it turned out to be much ado about nothing.
Olly, who was in Oxford Street, tweeted from Selfridges department store.
He said: “F**k everyone get out of @selfridges now gun shots!! I’m inside.”
But as Olly told his 7.8million Twitter followers to “get out” the Met, which has 1.1million followers, was saying the opposite — urging people to “go into a building and stay inside”.
GMB presenter Piers Morgan had little time for Olly's tweetstorm.
He said: "Stop tweeting mate @ollyofficial. Nothing happened."
X Factor runner up Olly defended himself and replied: "Listen piers! I was shopping and then all of sudden the whole place went mad, I mean crazy people running & screaming towards exits.
"If you was there you’d have understood mate."
Former Britain's Got Talent judge Piers responded: "No. You listen, Olly. When you have millions of followers be very careful what you tweet."
And he accused the star of "stirring extra panic" with his posts on the social media site.
Piers later told Olly: "Leave it to the police next time", adding that the pop star "could have put people in more danger."
The breakfast TV host also slammed Russell Brand as a "scaremongering goon" but the star has deleted the tweet Piers was responding to.
Piers later retweeted a video Russell Brand had posted during the incident, writing: "Dramatic reporting of absolutely nothing happening" followed by several laughing emojis.
Earlier this afternoon, Olly posted a series of tweets describing his panic as he was among hundreds evacuated from stores on London's Oxford Street early this evening.
The singer said Black Friday shoppers were screaming as they were evacuated from luxury store Selfridges.
He said that there had been "gunshots", but the Met police later said it had found "no evidence" of gun fire.
Olly tweeted: "F*** everyone get out of @Selfridges now gun shots!! I’m inside."
The star then reassured worried fans saying he was safe in a hotel with "loads of people".
Police earlier said they were responding to reports of gunshots, but the Met Police this afternoon confirmed it could not find "any evidence of shots fired or casualties."

Pal Alexandra Burke replied to the star's tweets, writing: "Oh god babe please be safe xx".
The police said: "At about 16:38 we started to receive numerous 999 calls reporting shots fired in a number of locations on #OxfordStreet & at Oxford Circus tube station.
"Given the nature of the info received we responded as if the incident was terrorism, including the deployment of armed officers.
"Additional officers remain on duty in the West End to reassure the public. We thank the public for their patience and assistance during our response.
"If you see anything suspicious dial 999 immediately #OxfordStreet"
