Builder hands in £30 he found left at cash machine – and minutes later wins £50,000 on £1.50 bet
Colin Banks said after his win: 'One good turn deserves another'
AN HONEST builder handed in £30 he found at a cash machine - and half an hour later won almost £50,000 from a £1.50 bet.
Colin Banks, 50, said "one good turn deserves another" after his remarkable stroke of luck — beating odds of 372,000-1.
He and daughter Zoe saw the banknotes sticking out of the cash point at an Asda in Motherwell, Scotland.
Without thinking twice, they handed the cash in at the store, .
Just 30 minutes later, Colin was jumping for joy after his long-shot stake on four virtual horse races landed him £49,077.
The dad-of-two said yesterday: “They say honesty is the best policy, and it certainly was for me.
“I have a big family and I’m now going to make sure we all have a brilliant time this Christmas — the best we've ever had.”
Colin celebrated his good karma with “more than one glass” of wine and has already splashed out £8,500 on a second-hand Ford Focus.
He added: “I was curious and went back into the supermarket on Sunday and the same member of staff I had handed the £30 to was on duty.
“She said the lad had been back in and was very grateful. I suppose one good turn deserves another.”
Teacher Zoe, 25, said: “There was a young couple behind us at the cash machine.
“They saw what was happening and actually said that good times were coming our way because we had done the right thing — and that’s what happened.
“Who would imagine that half an hour later dad would be £50,000 better off?”
