Mary Berry blasts food fads after insisting balanced diets are the best way to stay in shape

MARY Berry has scoffed at food fads, including the latest for so-called “clean eating”.
The ex-Bake Off queen, 82, hit out as she also mocked the craze for smoothies.
She said liquidising grub ruined its texture.
Despite its name, clean eating is the opposite — involving food as close as possible to its natural form.
It has been championed as healthier by trendy chefs.
But Mary, who is famed for her traditional puds, made it plain she is no fan.
She said: “It’s really about eating a balanced diet. You are what you eat.
“Everybody wants smoothies, but I’d rather have the texture of vegetables and fruits.
“If you want to have kale and spinach made into a smoothie, you have it. But for me, I just want a balanced diet — fruit, veg, meat and fish.”

Her blast came as she insisted she had no sour grapes over Prue Leith replacing her on the Great British Bake Off.
Mary quit when the show was poached from the BBC by Channel 4.”
She said: “If I could have chosen someone to take my place, and if they’d given me all the cookery writers set in a row, I would have said that Prue would be the one.”
The veteran cook was asked as she was interviewed for the next issue of Good Housekeeping how she thought her old show was doing on the commercial channel.
She praised new presenters Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig.
But she added: “It’s just people get a bit crabby about the ads.”
