Islamic militants have launched a number of attacks in the city of ­Volgograd, which hosts Gareth Southgate's men for their clash with Tunisia on June 18.

: "There are genuine fears the Islamic militants will try to make a political statement at the England game.

"Since the suicide attacks we have had very strict security measures, including all bags going through metal detectors at the train stations."

He added: "The city was shocked by the attacks and we don’t want it happening again."

This weekend it was reported that England fans could be sent to prison for 15 days if they are caught drinking on the streets of Volgograd.

England open their World Cup campaign in the city as they face Group G rivals Tunisia on June 18.

Russian  law prevents people drinking alcohol on the streets but Volgograd has an extra sanction in place for law-breakers.

Shops and supermarkets in Russia can sell alcohol only between the hours of 8am and 11pm.

But anyone caught swigging from a can of beer or bottle of wine outside of a pub, bar, hotel or restaurant is sent to the clink for 15 days.
