South Korea blasts news from the outside world into Kim Jong-un’s secretive North Korean state using giant speakers than can be heard 24km away

SOUTH Korea is blasting North Korea with propaganda using massive speakers that can be heard 15 miles away.

The broadcasts into the de-militarised zone between the two nations features details of last month's defection of a North Korean soldier, who was shot repeatedly by his comrades as he fled over the Joint Security Area (JSA).

After years of silence, Seoul's military resumed its ear-splitting psychological warfare technique after dictator Kim Jong-un's fourth nuclear test in January last year.

The speakers spread news of the outside world to the reclusive country's soldiers and civilians living near the border.

How big is North Korea's army and what missiles does Kim Jong-un have?

But as well as propaganda, the broadcasts features South Korean K-pop music, radio dramas, weather reports and descriptions of life in South Korea - which is vastly wealthier than North Korea.

A broadcast yesterday slammed the North Korean Army's dire health conditions, mentioning the defector being riddled with mystery 11-inch parasites.

It also told North Koreans about how he was shot by his fellow soldiers and the medical care he has received since he was rescued by South Korea.

The broadcasts infuriate North Korean leaders, who strictly control what information its impoverished citizens receive, and they have threatened to fire on the speakers if they continue.

A South Korean military spokesman told the newspaper Chosun Ilbo: "The news about an elite soldier like a JSA guard having fled in a hail of bullets will have a significant psychological impact on North Korean border guards."

Many defectors from North Korea say listening to radio broadcasts and watching bootleg soap operas from South Korea encouraged them to flee.

North Korea has now dug a trench where the 25-year-old soldier dramatically escaped the Stalinist regime.

Incredible footage showed the soldier drive up in a jeep before being chased and shot five times by his former comrades as he crossed into South Korea.

More than 30,000 North Korean civilians have also fled their homeland since the two nations came into being in 1948.
