Man charged over ‘provocative’ snowman rocket launcher Christmas display

The rocket-launcher snowman appeared at the office of the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association in Londonderry

A MAN has been charged after a snowman brandishing a rocket launcher was painted on the window of a republican support group’s office.

Alongside the beaming armed figure was the message “Wishing you an Explosive ”, which has been removed from the window display.

The rocket-launcher snowman appeared at the office of the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association in Chamberlain Street in .

Last night the PSNI revealed the man has been charged with two counts of permitting display of anything provocative.

It follows the appearance of the display in October.

The PSNI said the suspect is due to appear at the magistrates’ court in Londonderry on January 3.

The PSNI said: “Police investigating an incident involving a window display in the Chamberlain Street area of Londonderry in October have charged a 29 year old man with two counts of permitting display of anything provocative.

“He is due to appear at Londonderry MC on Wednesday 3rd January.”

All charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland.
