Terrifying moment bikini babe is bitten by a SHARK on her honeymoon
A HONEYMOONING groom filmed the terrifying moment his bride was savaged by a shark in the Caribbean.
Sarah Illig can be seen gliding through the clear blue water when the predator lunges and takes a chunk out of her arm.
Video footage shot by her husband Evan Carroll shows Sarah recoiling in pain and swimming away as fast as she can.
She said later she did not see the nurse shark approach and initially thought Evan was playing a trick on her during their snorkelling trip in the Caribbean.
She said: “I felt a whoosh of water, something clamped down on my arm and I assumed my husband was playing a prank on me.
“Less than a second later I realised how much it hurt and looked past where my goggles were blocking my side vision to see the shark (bigger than myself) latched on to my arm.
“I pulled away and got out of there.”
Estate agent Evan later posted a photo of bloody wounds where the monster sank its teeth into his wife's arm.
Sarah posted the video on Facebook and Instagram, jokingly telling pals: "Ended the honeymoon with a bang (bite).
"Check out the surprise and very rare nurse shark bite in the video and don’t forget the volume to hear the crunchhhhh."
Asked if she lost skin, she said: "Yes! If we were home we would have gotten some stitches but it worked out not getting them!
"Only had a bunch of flesh wounds along my arm. We were worried about staph or another infection but it’s healing great!"
She added: "So glad we did (film it) because no one would believe it!! Scared the heckkkkk out of me!
"Evan had the GoPro under water filming and couldn’t even tell it happened since he was above water!"
The sharks are a popular attraction in the resort and bites are said to be extremely rare unless the animals are provoked.
Sarah, of Charleston, South Carolina, had swum with the sharks earlier in the honeymoon and also posted a photo of herself swimming beside three of the massive predators alongside a yacht.
Nurse sharks are not known for attacking humans and are not in the top five most dangerous species for killing people.
Last month a swimmer died after being mauled by a shark at beach popular with British tourists in Cuba.
And migrants whose overcrowded boat capsized in the Med were reportedly eaten by sharks before rescuers arrived.
There were at least three shark sightings in Majorca over the summer and an 11-year-old girl suffered deep bite wounds to her foot in Benicassim near Benidorm.
