Mystery as bizarre ‘human-like’ creature is spotted surfacing for air in Australian river

A dark-looking beast floats along the Hawkesbury River in New South Wales before dunking its head under the water before popping up again

FREAKY footage has emerged which appears to show a "human-like" beast lurking in a river popular with fishermen.

The clip captures the moment a family from Sydney were freaked out after they spotted the mystery creature.

At first it appears like a body floating in the river

Recorded by 65-year-old Fethi Ada, a dark-looking object appear to float along the Hawkesbury River in New South Wales in Australia.

It then dunks its head under the water before popping up again.

The video cuts before the camera zooms in on the strange sight.

Mr Ada said he quickly got back inside his boat when the animal began to flap about.

the creature appeared human, but he guessed it was probably a seal.

He said: “It looked human the way it lifted its head up.

“It looked over towards us like who are these people.

“My brother threw some bait in and then it just got scared off.”

But Felicity Brownrigg, Secretary of Hawkesbury River Rescue, viewed the video and was not as convinced about what it was.

Felicity said: “It’s rare you actually get to see many (animals) as they stay below the surface.

“My guess would be that it is a seal."

But seals are not commonly known to live in this part of Australian waters.
