Fresh misery for Brit Laura Plummer, 33, facing execution in Egypt as prescription pills case is delayed until after Christmas
Laura has been detained since travelling to the strict Arab country with nearly 300 Tramadol tablets in her suitcase on October 9
A BRIT tourist facing the death penalty in Egypt over prescription pills she was carrying is facing fresh heartbreak as her court case could be delayed.
Laura Plummer, 33, has been detained since travelling to the strict Arab country with her suitcase loaded up with nearly 300 Tramadol tablets on October 9.
The shop worker had intended to give the medication to her Egyptian “husband” Omar Caboo, who told her he suffered from back problems following a car crash.
Laura had been set to stand trial on Christmas Day, and her family hoped she would be freed.
But they have now revealed the court appearance could be pushed back, leaving her trapped in a hellhole jail for another month.
And they say they are worried for her wellbeing after two months of being locked up in “repulsive” conditions.
Laura's sister Jayne Sinclair told the : “We had hoped that Laura would be released on Christmas Day by the judge, but her lawyers in Egypt say there is now a chance the case will be adjourned for another month.
“It is very disappointing but that is how the legal system works over there and we have to respect that.
“Laura is doing okay but she has lost some weight and is very pale.”
Laura’s family previously told how she was being kept in a tiny cell with 25 other women – including “murderers, heroin addicts and prostitutes” – and a hole in the floor as a toilet.
Jayne said in November: “Her life’s in danger. She can’t stay in there any longer or she will be murdered or kill herself.
“We went out to see her last week and my mum collapsed at the sight of her.
“She looked over at us and said, ‘Mum, Mum, please help me, help me’.”
Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said he has raised the case with Egyptian PM Sherif Ismail.
