NIGHT-SCARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Is this proof ‘Dear David’ is FAKE? Fans of bloke who’s shared videos of the ‘ghost’ in his home are convinced the latest clip went too far

Adam Ellis, who has been Tweeting updates of ghostly goings-on in his flat in New York, may have gone too far this time

FANS of a New Yorker who has kept Twitter followers gripped with tales of the ghostly goings-on in his flat claim his latest updates take it too far.

Those who believed Adam Ellis was haunted by a deformed child called Dear David say his most recent pictures are obviously "fake" and prove the whole thing was a hoax.

The cartoonist and illustrator has won more than 725,000 followers since he started live tweeting spooky happenings in August.

Each update scored him a wider audience and many people were clearly ready to believe it was true.

This week he returned to Twitter, apologising for a fortnight's absence as he said he has been struggling to sleep and has had weird dreams and sudden dizzy spells.

He said of waking up one night last week: "There was this a tangible feeling of... badness?

"It was a feeling I'm used to — it always accompanies David. People tweet at me a lot saying he might just need help, but I'm certain that's not the case. Every time he shows up, I feel a palpable sense of malice."

Adam said he used a phone app to take a photo every minute and let it run for several hours overnight.

Among 350 photos are a number that appear to show a creepy figure of a child ghost standing in his bedroom.

He says the pictures show Dear David staring at him as he slept, then at the ceiling, before collapsing on a chair and later reappearing next to the bed.

Adam Ellis believes this spooky clip of his chair moving is proof of the paranormal

He said: "That's when my heart started to race. I didn't want to look at the rest of the photos, but I knew I had to.

"I swiped to the next photo and my heart sank into my stomach. He was on the bed. Inches from me, staring down at me sleeping."

The last photo seems to show part of Dear David's head very close to the camera.

Adam said: "I'm at a loss for words. That malformed ear, that stringy hair. I didn't even know what to think.

"I looked all over my room but couldn't find anything. And honestly I've been so exhausted I didn't know how to process it."

Fans were quick to call him out on what they believe are images of a doll or fakes generated on a computer.

One said: "So I had fully believed in Dear David up until now... I don't know, the pictures just look too fake for me.

"I’m just thinking it's a doll Adam managed to get and shape to make David's face.

";Thank you for the entertainment but you lost me on the realness."

Another fan tweeted: "The newest Dear David thread totally makes me think it’s fake. I'm not about to be scared of some fake ass doll."

Last month, Adam detailed how he found an old child's shoe and a marble after investigating strange noises on his building's roof.

He also posted what he claimed were the first pictures of Dear David staring at him in his bedroom.

In October he said he had found Dear David in a statue in Japan.

And in September he posted footage of what appeared to be a glass jar moving on its own, a week after another film of a chair moving around his apartment.

The saga began in August when he tweeted daily updates claiming his pet cats had taken to staring at his front door at midnight for six nights in a row.

He said: "I looked out the peephole, and I'm dead certain I saw movement on the other side.

"Dear David found me, I think. I don't know what to do.

"I deadbolted the lock and got in bed because I don't know what else to do. I can still hear my cat meowing at the door. I am pretty scared."

Adam claimed the haunting began six months earlier when he drew a picture of the child ghost, with a "huge misshapen head dented on one side", who he had seen in a dream sitting in a green rocking chair at the end of his bed.
