Tussey mountain resort ski lift accident leaves five injured and dozens ‘crushed’ by chairs
Emergency crews rescued those stranded on the lift at Tussey Mountain in Pennsylvania using ropes
SKIERS were crushed after a ski lift malfunctioned sending chairs slamming into each other at a resort in Pennsylvania.
Emergency crews were called to the scene in Tussey Mountain, Boalsburg, where five people were reportedly injured.
Onlookers reported that the lift had stopped before the chairs slid into one another leaving skiers crushed together.
Shocking images show how at least five ski chairs rammed into each other – trapping several skiers and snowboarders.
Ropes were used to evacuate those trapped and those hurt received medical attention for minor injuries, 6 News reports.
At least two employees are believed to be among the injured.
On its Twitter page Tussey Mountain said: “Having difficulties with the chairlift… we are working on it now. May not be able to run it today. Stay tuned… #sorry.”
The wife of a reported victim tweeted in response saying: “My husband, your employee is sitting here in the ER. So is another employee… Sorry??? How about you show some concern for the employees and other people injured???”
The resort later apologised for the use of the hashtag in its original tweet saying it was not aware people had been injured at the time.
