David Davis reveals ‘he begged Theresa May’ not to sack his porn row minister pal Damian Green
Mr Green was sacked by Mrs May on Wednesday after Cabinet Office ethics chief Sue Gray concluded he had lied about the computer porn

DAVID Davis has revealed how he desperately tried to save his porn row minister pal Damian Green.
The Brexit Secretary set up a “war room” and begged the PM not to fire him.
But Mrs May was forced to sack her deputy on Wednesday after an inquiry found he lied about porn on his Commons computer. Mr Davis has since told pals: “I did everything I could to save him.”
The X-rated material was discovered by cops nine years ago during raids linked to Home Office leaks.
Mr Davis called in colleagues to help after the now-retired officers went public — accusing them of using “smear” tactics.
A close ally said: “He was furious about the way a respected minister and close friend had been so obviously victimised by officers waging a clear vendetta.
"He set up a war room in his office to ensure none of the smears went unchallenged.
“David also went in to see the PM several times to lobby her on Damian’s behalf.
"He pleaded with her not to give his head on a plate to the police.

“It was his view that there was more to be concerned about the behaviour of these former officers than the minister they were targeting.”
Downing Street has ruled out a rush to replace Mr Green — though Mrs May is said to be plotting a wider reshuffle of her top team in the New Year.
The Remainer’s departure leaves a huge gap in her carefully balanced Cabinet but she may choose to have no deputy.
Mrs May is keen to reboot after losing three ministers in six weeks, with Defence Secretary Michael Fallon and International Aid chief Priti Patel also leaving.
